Maine West High School Spanish Students Score Well on NSE

Students from Maine West earned a total of three gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Eleven other students attained honorable mention.
“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 150,000 students participating in 2018.”
Maine West Department Chairman of Foreign Languages Alan Matan added, “I am proud to see that we have students learning Spanish who have proficiency levels that compare to the best language learners in the country.”
Gold winning student, Martylinette Sanchez, explained the progress to her success. “Last year I took it and I didn’t do as well, but this year, I was able to work on my comprehension in AP Spanish 5, and it really helped me learn the language more,” Sanchez said.
