Turkey Trot
In order to raise money for the Des Plaines Food Pantry and Self-Help Closet, the 18th annual Turkey Trot run is scheduled for today at 3:30 p.m. in the stadium. Friends and family are encouraged to join the non-competitive run.
Turkey Trot participants will pay a $3 entry fee & may enter a prize raffle. The money will be raised by selling $10 Turkey Trot t-shirts, too. People can also enter by bringing in five canned goods that will be donated to the food pantry, which is located at the corner of Wolf and Algonquin roads.
P.E. teacher Steve Piha, who organizes the event, emphasized that the Turkey Trot is about building community, not about sprinting to the finish line. “We don’t make it a competitive run but fun,” Piha said.
Turkey Trot will follow the same format as always. As Piha said, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.”
