Taste of Des Plaines 2018

The Taste of Des Plaines was held over the course of two days, Friday and Saturday in downtown Des Plaines. The festival featured free live music, different games, food from local restaurants, wine, and even a climbing wall. Many were able to enjoy their time listening to the live bands in the designated seated area, while others with children were provided a family area full of different games.

Memorial Day Ceremony 2018

Des Plaines honored fallen soldiers during today's Memorial Day Ceremony at Lake Park Memorial Pavilion. Wearing contemporary uniforms, students freshman Carter D., senior Brett P., senior Matthew M., senior Derek P., sophomore Liam B. and freshman Miguel P. portrayed soldiers and their family members from the Civil War through the Vietnam War, reciting a short speech about each soldier's death and the impact it made on their family, while juniors and buglers Claire F. and Davis P. played a rendition of "Taps". Pi Sigma Pi 2018 Annual Picnic

Today students gather outside the Pool after school to celebrate their involvement in Pi Sigma Pi, Maine West’s Social Science Honors Society. “I really enjoy spending time with my classmates at the yearly picnic while we enjoy hotdogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, chips, and refreshments while receiving our induction certificates,” sophomore Kensey Reeves said.

Maine West’s Math Teams go to ICTM math competition

Maine West's junior and senior math teams traveled to the University of Illinois to compete in the annual ICTM math competition on Saturday. The junior-senior two-person team comprised of seniors Bhagirath M. and Brett P. ranked 9th out of 27 teams. Bhagirath and junior Daniel J. also obtained 6th out of 35 teams for orals, the highest finish the MW math team has ever had. Mehta also placed 14th in the state in individuals out of the 192 students competing.
